Team Red claimed the 2020 Red Stick Summer League title Saturday, September 21, at Glasgow Middle School in Baton Rouge. The team composed of boys high school lacrosse players from Catholic High, The Baton Rouge Mustangs, and Central High School Wildcats outlasted the Red Stick White team in a thrilling 13-12 game.
The Red team jumped out to a significant first-quarter advantage and took a 5-0 lead into the quarter break. The White team started quickly in the second quarter and ended up outscoring Red 5 to 4 in the second period to trail 9-5 at the half.
Again, the White team started in the second half and all but stifling the Red offense to close the third quarter. Trailing on 11-9 but seemingly in possession of all of the momentum.
Things tightened up at the start of the third quarter, and goals became tougher to come to buy as the intensity of play picked up. Red continues to struggle on offense, and White kept chipping away, eventually tying the game at 11 before taking their first and only lead the game at 12-11. However, Red did not quit and scored two late goals to retake the lead and ran out the clock in the last two and a half minutes despite a valiant effort by a spent White team defense.
Red took home the title and the trophy with a hard-fought 13-12 victory.
